New Zealand Cricket has expressed disappointment over Richard Hadlee's apparent move to the unsanctioned American Premier League. Hadlee's appointment as the APL's executive consultant came in the same week former England internationals Adam Hollioake and Graeme Hick signed to play in the tournament, according to the Telegraph.
As exclusively revealed by Cricinfo last month, New York entrepreneur Jay Mir is actively recruiting past and present players for a six-team Twenty20 league to be played at the 10,000-seat home of minor league baseball team, the Staten Island Yankees, in October. John Emburey and Inzamam-ul-Haq are among the higher-profile names to have linked with the APL, and more players, many from the ICL's ranks, are expected to sign in the coming weeks.
NZC chief executive Justin Vaughan said he was disappointed at Hadlee's reported move to the APL. "It's regrettable he's aligned with an unsanctioned and unofficial circuit," Vaughan told the Sunday Star-Times in New Zealand. "It's certainly not preferrable but he's got his life to lead.''

The T20 cricket virus
The T20 cricket virus spread to hitherto unfamiliar domains too. Yes! I am talking about this fever in US currently. It looks like the ASEG (American Sports and Entertainment Group) contemplates on capitalizing on the interest in US with that generated by IPL in other continents. It plans to run a similar show in US named American Premier League or APL. New York and Fort Lauderdale will play hosts for the inaugural series of APL. The APL inaugural series will be played two times; one in New York from October 6, 2009 to October 26, 2009 and then the second one will be in April 2010 (dates yet to be confirmed) in Fort Lauderdale

The league will be played twice a year and will be held at one venue, baseball's Richmond County Bank Ballpark. The APL has a three year deal with minor league club the Staten Island Yankees who own the venue.
The Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George (RCB Ballpark) is a baseball stadium located on the north-eastern tip of Staten Island. The ballpark is the home of the Staten Island Yankees, the NY-Penn League affiliate of the New York Yankees, and of Wagner College Seahawks Baseball.
The ballpark was also home of the city?s Pro Cricket team the New York Storm in 2004. In addition, local High Schools have the chance to play at least one game at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has warned current and former international cricketers against signing up for the proposed American Premier League (APL), the Daily Times reports. A statement issued by the ICC, clearly states that the APL, being organised on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL), would not be authorized by the ICC and would have the same status as the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL).
All ICL players have been banned by their respective cricketing boards from taking part in any international or domestic events. Earlier, it was reported that former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq was planning to join the APL. Inzamam had also confirmed that he and seven other ICL Lahore Badshah players had received an invitation from US-based entrepreneur Jay Mir in this context. Mir, the CEO of American Sports And Entertainment Group Inc, has come up with a six team American Premier League (APL) to be held in October on Staten Island in a baseball converted cricket field.
Mir hopes to develop the APL on the lines of the famous IPL with the same franchise and auction system, and build up six teams namely Premium Pakistan, Premium Indians, Premium West Indies, Premium World and Premium America. The Pakistan player wish list of Mir also includes names of Imran Nazir, Imran Farhat, and also Mohammad Asif, who is currently facing a ban from international cricket on charges of drug smuggling.
