The inaugural season of the American Premier League, which was set to take place in Staten Island, New York, in October this year, has had to be postponed, and it is now very doubtful if the project will see the light of day.
According to the league chairman, Jay Mir, a full and detailed proposal for the competition was sent to the USA Cricket Association six weeks ago as part of an application to gain official sanctioning, but no reply has been forthcoming.
Sir Richard Hadlee, the APL executive consultant, said: "We have done what we were asked to do by preparing and sending a proposal to have our event supported and sanctioned and as we have not had any official responses, time has run out for the October tournament. We are hopeful of continuing dialogue in the future."
However, Cricinfo has learned there were major concerns with the size of the proposed venue, a baseball field in Staten Island. The recent announcement that USACA is exploring plans to launch its own Twenty20 tournament also makes the future of the APL highly dubious.

New Zealand Cricket has expressed disappointment over Richard Hadlee's apparent move to the unsanctioned American Premier League. Hadlee's appointment as the APL's executive consultant came in the same week former England internationals Adam Hollioake and Graeme Hick signed to play in the tournament, according to the Telegraph.
As exclusively revealed by Cricinfo last month, New York entrepreneur Jay Mir is actively recruiting past and present players for a six-team Twenty20 league to be played at the 10,000-seat home of minor league baseball team, the Staten Island Yankees, in October. John Emburey and Inzamam-ul-Haq are among the higher-profile names to have linked with the APL, and more players, many from the ICL's ranks, are expected to sign in the coming weeks.
NZC chief executive Justin Vaughan said he was disappointed at Hadlee's reported move to the APL. "It's regrettable he's aligned with an unsanctioned and unofficial circuit," Vaughan told the Sunday Star-Times in New Zealand. "It's certainly not preferrable but he's got his life to lead.''

The T20 cricket virus
The T20 cricket virus spread to hitherto unfamiliar domains too. Yes! I am talking about this fever in US currently. It looks like the ASEG (American Sports and Entertainment Group) contemplates on capitalizing on the interest in US with that generated by IPL in other continents. It plans to run a similar show in US named American Premier League or APL. New York and Fort Lauderdale will play hosts for the inaugural series of APL. The APL inaugural series will be played two times; one in New York from October 6, 2009 to October 26, 2009 and then the second one will be in April 2010 (dates yet to be confirmed) in Fort Lauderdale

The Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George (RCB Ballpark) is a baseball stadium located on the north-eastern tip of Staten Island. The ballpark is the home of the Staten Island Yankees, the NY-Penn League affiliate of the New York Yankees, and of Wagner College Seahawks Baseball.
The ballpark was also home of the city?s Pro Cricket team the New York Storm in 2004. In addition, local High Schools have the chance to play at least one game at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
